Portable Appliance Testing.


Portable Appliance Testing (PAT testing), is an important part of any Health & Safety Policy.

If your working environment has any electrical appliances with a plug attached, then these are classed as Portable Appliances.

To  minimise the risk of a potential fire, or  electric shock to a employee or the general public, it is vital to have these appliances safety tested to assure a safe working environment.

All testing is carried out under the IEE's code of practice for In- Service Inspection and testing of Electrical equipment and conforms to HSE guidelines.

The Electricity at Work Regulations: 1989

The Management of Health and Safety at Work regulations; 1992

The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations: 1992

What needs to be tested ?

Generally speaking, if it connects to a power supply via a conventional plugtop, and it is in use in a wok environment, then it should be tested periodically.

Appliances from computors to catering equipment, drills to lighting units must be tested.
